Discovering what love is one day at a time
In this life there are things that really do matter, and things that do not. Physically speaking, in our everyday life, we can get wrapped up in the things that don’t really matter easily. Things like, should I wear my hair short or long? Should I buy only organic? What if I only ran 3 miles today instead of 6? Quinoa or brown rice? Electric versus gas? Stocks or bonds?...Subaru or Honda? Public or private school?...etc.. Does it really matter? I was in the post office the other day and I was going to buy some stamps. My mind was wondering aimlessly, excited that I was finishing in the line in about 5 minutes rather than the usual 25, when the attendant asked me in regards to the stamps I was purchasing, “Does it matter?” I remember shrugging my shoulders and saying, “nah…”
However, as she handed me the stamps, the picture was a religious picture, and I was convicted that this time…it did really matter…for me. The picture depicted a religious festival, that although it celebrates light, and the protection against spiritual darkness, it is a watered down and twisted version, that does not leave much hope for the one believing on it. Beloved brothers and sisters, hope matters. I find it interesting that the celebration means different things depending on the tradition and the culture. I know that it is just a celebration, but it made me think about how Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever. That God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Spirit are one. They never change. When we put our faith/trust in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for us, He by the power of His Holy Spirit takes up residence in us. The power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. He is the propitiation for our sins. He makes us new. He is our protection against spiritual darkness. We get to choose each and every day whom we will serve. Darkness, or the Light; the One and only True Light who is Jesus Christ. “And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.… If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.… But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.… If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.… If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.… My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours alone, but also for the sins of the whole world By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments. If anyone says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him: Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.” 1 John 1:6-1 John 2:6 Eternal consequences for our souls…that REALLY matters. I like how God reminds us, and encourages us to be bold and unapologetic for His Truth, because life matters…eternally speaking. What would you rather have, religious experiences, or a powerful and real relationship with the lover of your soul now and for eternity? There are many different explanations of who God is. But beloved brother and sister, there is only one true God and that is Jesus Christ. He is the only one that can save you from eternal darkness. He is the only one that can bring hope and healing to any and every situation. He is Lord of all, and He loves you. He loves you as you are right now. He loves you 100 percent. He will always love you 100 percent. He loves you because that is who He is and He cannot be any different. Even if you want to follow religious and cultural practices He will love you. If you are an atheist, He loves you 100 percent. There is nothing you can do or say that can make God love you any more or any less. He loves you one hundred percent today and he will love you one hundred percent tomorrow. If you never want to change He will not love you any less…Even if you do not have any plans to walk with Him He will still love you 100 percent because that is just who He is …He cannot be any different…you see, surely His goodness and mercy will chase after you all the days of your life, because …He loves you. I do not know of any other God that has gone to the lengths that Jesus Christ has for me and the whole world. I do not know of any other God that is as relational as Jesus Christ. I do not know of any other God that continues to help and communicate with us like Jesus Christ. Do you? Jesus Christ cares about our souls...it really matters to Him, so much that He gave up His position in His holy and perfect God form and became man. He lived a perfect, and sinless life, and died on the cross taking away our sins, and was resurrected. So, when it comes to celebration of light, there is only One Light I want to celebrate, and that is the Light of Jesus Christ. The One and only True Light. Today, will you open up your heart to Him? It matters. It does…really.
