Discovering what love is one day at a time
I woke up this morning with a song by Sister Sledge going through my heart…I think I added my own words and said all my brothers and sisters and me…instead of the original lyrics that say, I got all my sisters with me… You know the song that starts out with…(We are family…I got all my sisters with me…we are family…get up everybody and sing.) I was reminded the other day by a beautiful, gentle and tenderhearted friend when sharing a personal situation I was experiencing…the simplicity of worship. Singing songs unto the Lord in the midst of whatever is happening. The reminder of the ever present comfort of the Lord…
What a beautiful and helpful reminder : to choose to praise Him and choose to focus on whatever is true whatever is noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy- meditate on these things. I catch myself humming and singing throughout the day, but recently when facing this situation, I have noticed, that my singing/humming even in my head had stopped… Worship, always leads me to taking that personal inventory, seeing if there is any darkness hidden in my heart…recognizing where my heart has exalted my circumstance over the knowledge of God. Seeing the symptoms where I have allowed my heart and mind to be swayed by emotion, thoughts and feelings that are not submitted to God, and are not full of love, but full of offense. My only ability to see that is provided by His grace, my job then is to respond to that in true humility and repentance. Then I can worship in spirit and in truth. I love that this friend reminded me of a practical way to stay focused on what really is important. Keeping our hearts focused is not just for our benefit, but for His glory and for the benefit of others. We truly cannot love with His love if our hearts have taken up the spirit of offense. I love that we can share our struggles with one another, and that we can be encouraged and exhorted to walk worthy of the calling that He has placed on our lives. I am so thankful for the body of Christ, brothers and sisters, and His love for us that shines through hands, hearts and words of others. I am praying that you also will be strengthened, exhorted, encouraged and blessed by those surrounding you.
