Discovering what love is one day at a time
I read something the other day that said basically the only time you are ever done with laundry is when you are naked... I do not know about you, but I have had that moment where if you go to take a shower and if you leave your clothes out...(officially they become laundry)…so you make sure the last load is that which you are wearing plus your towel, especially if you are getting ready to go on a trip. Who wants to come back to old laundry. It stinks. I was thinking about when my little one was nursing and I had a 5 year old as well. It never seemed like I could make it through the day without being puked on, or having some sort of something smeared on me by close contact. (Peanut butter hug) If you have children, or have ever taken care of kids, you can relate.
When we put our faith in Jesus Christ we are washed first by the blood of the Lamb of God. Thus, our sins are washed away and we are justified and born again of the Spirit of God. This same washing establishes the fact that we are sanctified or set aside unto God. The purpose for which we were justified becomes clearer. We are to die to ourselves daily, take up our cross daily, and allow the Spirit of Christ to rule over our lives. We are to obey His precepts. But, daily, ongoing sins must be washed away as well. It is the washing by the water of the Word of God that keeps us honest with ourselves. Spiritually speaking, we are never done with our stuff. We can have a day where we have been abiding with the Lord, and our” laundry” is taken care of…for the moment…and we can be by a conversation that is “staining.” Or walk by a conversation that slaps you upside the head. Or we can enter in to those conversations and be the carrier of the stain. (Lipstick on a glass) I am amazed by the fact that God had a plan for all of this. He knew that we are all fallible. He knew that we were not pure spotless and holy. He died to make a way for us, and then He provided for daily upkeep, for the continuous purity that we cannot provide for ourselves. It’s like standing next to the washer with your laundry ready to go. Naked. He has provided everything we need. We just have to open the door to the washer (the Word) and let Him reveal our stuff. We need the willingness to listen as He speaks. He is faithful to reveal whether we have caused it, or someone else. As we stay standing in His grace, we also need to be diligent to continue in His washing. Otherwise, things get a bit stinky.
