Discovering what love is one day at a time
In honor of Mother’s Day and especially my Mom…here are some things I learned about love and life from my Mom…but not all that she taught me. Life is short. Make sure the people you love know that you love them. When you clean or wash dishes sing at the top of your lungs, and make sure the radio is that loud. It’s good to dance and do several things at once so you can have more time to play. Dusting isn’t always necessary; neither is having your Tupperware cupboard completely organized. Do not sweat it if your glasses have crusties, or if there is dirt in areas only you can see. Nobody is perfect, and seriously trying to look like it is, is a waste of precious time. Eat your vegetables. Road trips are more fun with cinnamon bears and singing (at the top of your lungs). You have not lived if you have not eaten a hotscotchbutterfudge sundae. It is totally okay to eat junk food for dinner, especially when the boys go hunting. Spooning is a quick way to get warm, and your kids fall asleep faster. Do stuff that is hard, because when something is easy the hard stuff doesn’t seem as hard. Take care of your chores quickly in the morning so you can go outside and play. Change your underwear, and brush your teeth. Have friends that love you for who you are, and like you anyways. Try new things. Believe that you can do it even though you have no confidence that you would actually be able to do it. Laughter is wonderful, very necessary and life is boring without it. Play legos, and tinker toys, sit on the floor with your kids and be creative and follow the directions...you will be amazed at what you can do if you have patience to follow through. Make cookies and bars and cakes and really fun recipes with your kids. Eat cookie dough, lick the spoon, and have snacks. Read together, talk together, and laugh together. Be together. When you don’t like to do something and your kids do…suck it up...The time you get to spend with them is worth the pain of sitting in the rain and getting to watch your kids be the amazing people they are. Hug your kids more than they think they need it, tell them how awesome they are, and put their artwork and tests on the fridge. Time goes by too quickly, love, love and then love some more. I love you Mom. Happy Mother’s Day!!
