Discovering what love is one day at a time
You can look up at the sky on a clear night and by awed by the great expanse of stars, or see the great beauty in the seemingly endless view of the ocean. We can only see so far, and yet the ocean is thousands of miles, and space is light years in distance. No doubt about it, our earthly perspective is limited. I love that God uses the ordinary every day things to show us His magnificence and glory.
As I push myself in various forms of exercise, I can see my physical weakness, and limitations I have put on myself. I can see also places that I have parked, refusing to budge from my comfortable path of least resistance. I also see places that injury and sickness have “stunted” my growth or ability temporarily. As I set goals for myself, I realize that many of them are quickly and easily attainable, and some are farther away, and yet I am still limited. I can only do so much in this body. I am lacking. I can see that I fall short in so many areas, and I am so thankful that I do not have to depend on myself to live this life. I am so thankful that the realization that I fall short; draws my eye away from myself and onto the One who is limitless. What we can develop in our body is limited here on this earth. (Christ in us…the hope of glory…) The power of Christ living in us is not limited. It is not meant for just us. It is meant to serve the people around us. Just as physical activity exposes our weakness, day to day living does as well. By God’s grace we are enabled to see our path of least resistance, where we choose to run from situations, or not confront our own thinking that is robbing life from us and others around us. We also can see those places of injury that may cloud our view. There is a song that talks about Jesus that goes like this… He became sin, who knew no sin That we might become His righteousness He humbled himself and carried the cross Love so amazing, love so amazing [Chorus] Jesus Messiah, name above all names Blessed redeemer, Emmanuel The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven Jesus Messiah, Lord of all His body the bread, his blood the wine Broken and poured out all for love The whole earth trembled, and the veil was torn Love so amazing, love so amazing, yeah [Chorus] All I hope is in You, all I hope is in You All the glory to You, God, the light of the world Jesus Messiah-By Chris Tomlin Name above ALL names... He is the beginning and the end… (Which we cannot see), He is not bound, He is limitless, and He is the ransom from Heaven. Heaven is where He dwells and yet He dwells in the hearts of men who will receive Him… With God all things are possible…His power is made perfect in our weakness. We are weak, we need Him for everything. How great is His provision for us! Not only has He redeemed us from the power of death/sin, but He surrounds us with His love and such magnificent love that is! He hedges us in, behind and before. His Holy Spirit is our ever present help. Today as you look at the world that surrounds you, whether it is the infinite number of snowflakes that are swirling past your windows, the plentiful rain cascading off of your roof, the sound of the mighty waves of the ocean crashing into the shore, or the simple breath coming out of your own body; I pray that you are awed by His magnificence, drawn closer to inquire of His goodness and love for you, and thankful for another day that He has given.
