Discovering what love is one day at a time
I read a quote by Noah Webster, which said this: “The virtues of men are of more consequence to society than their abilities: and for this reason the heart should be cultivated with more assiduity than the head.” Assiduity is another word for diligence, which means persistent personal attention and care. Like one who is legally expected or required of a person as party to a contract.
We as believers in Christ Jesus are bound by the covenant of His blood. His covenant is one that has done away with the penalty of sin; He is committed to finish the good work that He began in us. He has taken out our heart of stone and replaced it with a new heart and new spirit. His Spirit causes us to walk in His statutes and keep His judgments and do them. This is our journey of being conformed into the image of His Son. We are to walk in His Spirit. We are to be diligent, we are to heed, we are to be steadfast, and we are to abound in the work of the Lord. We are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Psalm 112:7 Passivity, spiritually speaking is not a virtue. To be passive spiritually means that we are receptive to outside impressions or influences that we are lacking in energy or will and that we tend to not take an active part. Passivity means that we are not active or operating (inert), that we do not resist the darkness, and that we are submissive to it. In fact, our passivity suggests that we are tolerant to the darkness, resigned, unresistant and even yielding to it…. This is a submissiveness that is contrary to the Word of God. This is where in relationships, one taking a passive role will react rather than respond to someone taking the initiative to work out a situation. As Sons and Daughters of the King we are to be active in our relationships. We are to be the one who takes risks and initiative. Without taking risks, we stay quarantined in our own comfort zone. God’s Truth brings us His Comfort; our comfort does not always bring us His Truth. We are to be constantly seeking it, and hunting after it, which involves risk, initiative, and a bit of personal discomfort. There is always value in the effort, regardless of the outcome. Relationship is always more important than whatever project you are in the midst of.
