Discovering what love is one day at a time
I love that the God of the whole universe is a loving God. I love that He has not made us to be robots with a robotic “brain” that does not have the ability to think outside of the box. There is such freedom in the power to make our own decisions. God has given us the liberty of free will; we get to choose and in that place of choice we get to decide each and every moment of our lives whom we will serve… Free will begs an action, and action is not a passive response, but an active one. God has provided everything we need in this life here on earth that pertains to godliness. And He has made it all available to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
That in itself is an amazing and beautiful thing. However, in order to experience the benefits of that amazing resurrected life, we must choose to surrender our lives to Him. We must make a decision and even after our initial decision is made, we get to continue to make decisions to choose His life in every area of our own lives. He calls us a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people that we may proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1Peter 2:9 I do not know about you, but I look at my life and I have to remind myself of these things continuously. That this is what GOD says about me. My life did not supernaturally change in my heart until I quit resisting the fact that I could not get to heaven by my desire…want, positive attitude, or anything that I could do…and that anything that I had chosen to do or had happened to me would not keep Him from forgiving me and bestowing His grace upon me. That great gift was not just for after my physical death here on earth…but for now, for today. His Word says that He sets before us life and death…and that we are to choose whom we will serve. Check out Deuteronomy 30. His Word also says that He came that we might have life and live it abundantly…it also says that the devil only came to steal kill and destroy… We can resist those things that steal from our hearts minds and spirit. James 4:7 Be Subject to God. Resist the devil and He will flee from you. Most often we refuse to accept things that are new or different (we resist)… and yet we all know that we have patterns and places in our lives that are not healthy...We find ourselves in the same situations over and over again… for every where we go there we are…is it time to get off the merry-go-round? God’s mercies are new every morning… and He has sent His Holy Spirit to assist us in receiving those mercies every day… His Word is like plant fertilizer, it is poison to our flesh (our sin nature)…and yet it is plant food to our souls. When we put our faith in Christ we are a new creation…the old is gone…dead…our flesh is still part of us physically… yet spiritually God calls it dead. War is hell but you cannot have a war with someone that is dead. We are crucified with Christ it is not us that lives but Christ that lives within us and the life we now live in the flesh we live by faith in the Son of God who died and gave His life for us. We are dead to the things that gnaw at our emotions…dead to the things that are like bait that try to trap us into fighting against God’s grace. Remember, He has set us in the place of victory. Psalm 23 says He sets a table for us in the presence of our enemies… we get to choose which table we sit at. We can choose to dine with a ruler that steals from us by our appetite, or the One who gives to us over abundantly and nourishes our souls. What is God asking you to resist today?
