Discovering what love is one day at a time
Stewardship is something that is always on my mind. I am always looking for ways to improve my own stewardship of the things I am responsible for in my life. The word stewardship means the office, duties, or obligations of a steward. Also, conducting, supervising and managing of something. The careful responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. I can think of this in many arenas in my life. First and foremost, I think of my relationship with God. Seek ye first the kingdom of the Lord and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. I have a responsibility as a believer to guard and care for what has been entrusted to me: new life, His, living inside of me, His witness, who He is to be represented in ALL that I do ….to the best of my ability, by the grace of God and the power of His Holy Spirit. I live my life unto Him, and that includes all of me…physical, emotional, mental, spiritual.
Secondly I think about my husband, and our relationship, my position in that as a wife, and friend, cheerleader and lover. Next, our children individually, caring for their needs emotional, physical, mental and spiritual, helping them to grow and mature in Christ, and live in the world today, helping them to discover their passions, celebrating their unique ideas and differences as their mom and their cheerleader. After that, I think of other resources and spheres of influence, gifting and talents that God has given me, that are to be used in investing in others. One of the most important points, I believe in recognizing how important our stewardship is, is that everything we have, we have been given. God has enabled us to be in whatever place we are right now at this moment; our lives, physical emotional, mental and spiritual, our families, our relationships, our roofs over our heads, jobs, finances…etc… We get the privilege and the opportunity to steward all of it. Which then just gets me to be thinking about where my heart is…Am I truly thankful? Is there any area that my heart does not have gratitude, for the things He has appointed me to steward? Is my heart full of honor for God, the gifts He has given, and honor for others’ gifts as well? Truthfully, without a heart of gratitude and honor, the things that we are responsible for will be ignored, in more ways than one and will just not end well. Is my focus on what the world thinks, or on being well pleasing to God? What direction am I heading? Does my comfort lead me in all my decisions, or have I set God, His Kingdom and His righteousness in the place of King over my life? He is fully capable of directing me in every single arena in my life, and desires to do so. The question I have to ask myself every once in a while is if I have shut the door on any of these areas; or if I have become lazy or complacent and not proactive or diligent to be obedient to His leading. Is there an area that I have become fearful, not obedient to His voice, and not willing to take what the world calls risks…because truly trusting God is not risky…He is faithful in everything He does…however not trusting God truly is risky behavior.
