Discovering what love is one day at a time
If our eyes are the window to our souls, and our thoughts reflect those things that we are fixing our eyes upon, and our behavior reflects the things that we are truly believing…isn’t it important for us to recognize our part in that? We become what we behold…how often do you hear someone say…”I have become my worst nightmare.” “I have become just like my (mother, father, sister, brother, uncle, etc…)” There is reason that the Word of God has instruction for us to meditate on the things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy. To truly meditate is to reflect over something, to ponder it. Also it is to intend…or to purpose. It is like setting a goal.
When you set your mind to do something you purpose it. What if your mind is focused on a healthier lifestyle? You will gain a healthier lifestyle to the degree that you are willing to move forward, and act in the manner that you think feel and decide in. What if your mind is focused in on not being angry all of the time…? Chances are you will still battle with the angry part, because it is still an object that you carry affection for. There is still an affection...negative towards the anger...thus still focused on it. Not only is it good for us to meditate on good things for ourselves, but even more important is for the people that surround us. For our actions, our thoughts, our words, our behavior, can bring life, and hope, and healing, or just the opposite of each; to ourselves, and to others. Truly, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, but it had to be a thought before it got there. Not all thoughts are worth considering. Is the way you think based on the norm of the culture? Look at the norm of the culture over the past 100 years…Values have changed, what the “norm” is has changed. Yet God’s Word never changes… So then, it is important to figure out what your value system is…where does it come from. Do your values change based on your emotions, and passions, or from where? It is so important for us to take a look at the way we think feel and decide. For our ways are fallible, but God in His infinite wisdom and never-ending love is infallible Let us not be conformed to the standards of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds that we can prove what is that good and perfect and acceptable will of God. “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on that I may lay hold of that which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:12-14
