Discovering what love is one day at a time
Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow… The other day... yesterday, I was thinking about those three words. How often do we think of these days like the verses in the songs…Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, Now it looks as though there here to stay, O I believe in yesterday….Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play, now I need a place to hide away, O I believe in yesterday……Or…The sun will come out, tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there will be sun…Just thinking about tomorrow clears the cobwebs and the sorrow til there’s none, Tomorrow, tomorrow I love you tomorrow your always a day away. How often do we as individuals, hide in our yesterdays, or in the believed promise of tomorrow? Thoughts are centered on the past or the future, and not in the present. Is it because today has something difficult that our hearts refuse to look at?
I was reading in Exodus 8, and saw the interaction between Pharaoh and Moses. The Lord spoke to Moses and told him to tell Pharaoh to let His people go, that they may serve Him...But if Pharaoh refused to let them go, He would smite all of their territory with a plague of frogs. They would come from the Nile River and come into their houses, bedrooms, beds, on their people, in their ovens and kneading bowls…EVERYWHERE…infiltrating every part of their lives. And so it happened, and the magicians copied the plague and made it worse. Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and asked them to entreat the Lord to take away the frogs from his people and himself, and he would let the people go. Moses spoke to him and asked him to accept the honor of saying when he would intercede for him, and his servants and his people to destroy the frogs from him and his houses that they shall remain in the river only. Pharaoh’s response….Tomorrow. Moses replied to him,”Let it be according to your word, that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God.” Moses cried out to God and the Lord did according to the word of Moses. And the frogs died and they gathered them together in heaps and the land stank. But yet when Pharaoh saw that there was relief…he hardened His heart. Pharaoh and His people were plagued, by a large number of harmful or annoying things, experiencing calamity, they were bound, they were infested, their lives were covered in frogs…and yet Pharaoh’s answer was tomorrow….when would you like to be free of this…tomorrow…So, can you relate?….I will eat healthy …tomorrow…I will exercise…tomorrow…I will go to church…tomorrow…I will deal with that hurtful relationship…tomorrow. What is the plague that you are infested with? Is there a place in your life that you are bound in a pattern of sin? Do you have an addiction to something that is causing you great pain and suffering that is affecting every part of your life? We can be enslaved to a pattern of thinking that is harmful to us… we can be addicted. Addiction is simply a giving over to or surrender. Are you surrendered to this world and all of the things in it, or are you surrendered to Christ as your Lord and Savior. All sin truly tends to be addictive; however, the terminal point of addiction would be our eternal separation from God. All things are permissible, yet not all things are beneficial. As simple human beings we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We have a plague upon our lives…sin which equals death and eternal separation from God…but Christ died for us, He by His death and resurrection on the Cross made a way for us, which is not possible by our own human means. We are not good enough, or just good people. We are sinners, and while we were yet sinners He died for us. For God so loved the world that whosoever should believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Rest. If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord you shall be saved. Today, will you believe the truth of His Word over your circumstances? His mercies are new every morning. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever. If we abide in His Word, then truly we are His disciples, we shall know the Truth and the Truth will set us free. There is a Scripture in Joshua that says… Joshua told the people “consecrate yourselves for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” The action is to take place today…consecrate means to dedicate yourself. What are you dedicated to in your heart today? Is whatever it is contrary to His purposes? What are you holding onto in your heart and mind that keeps you from truly living today? God’s Word says where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty…freedom…life, peace, rest. Are you living in a place that is no longer…the past? Or living in something that hasn’t even happened yet? Neither exists. Yet today does. What will you do with today? For the Word of God is alive and active sharper than any two edged sword it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit joints and marrow it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we must give an account. Hebrews 4:12-13 He hedges us in behind and before, and not a word is on our tongue before He knows it all together…His thoughts toward us are of love and they are more numerous than the grains of sand… Peace that surpasses understanding and joy everlasting joy is for today. For all… Therefore since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it For we who have believed do enter that rest. ……..… He again fixes a certain day. Today, saying through David after so long a time just as been said before. Today if you hear His voice do not harden your hearts. Hebrews 4:1-3, 7 Do not be like Pharaoh, that when relief came, he hardened His heart. We do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is our life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
